WORK: Community organizing, fundraising, supply procurement and allocation to the women, children and elderly at camp, firewood sourcing and allocation, tribal meeting minutes, photography and filming for full length documentary, wood chopping, fire building, surviving.
I left Idaho in early November, 2016 with western hat maker, Cate Havstad out of Bend, OR., and photographer Amanda Leigh Smith to head out for Cannonball, North Dakota. We were dropping donations to the water protectors camped out on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. In addition, I was on assignment with Amanda for Hobo Magazine to shoot Canadian American actress and activist, Margo Kidder as she was building a school for the young kids who called camp home. What was meant to be a 5 day trip turned into nearly three months spent in the cold and desolate North Dakota winter with work and experiences I never imagined. You can read about my journey and see more photos and videos on the blog as I slowly, after a year has passed, begin to share and process the one-of-a-kind and totally unexpected adventure.
